IWC

IWC Pilot review time!

I have had this watch for 5 days now have to say it’s really nice. IWC’s move to reduce the case size from 46.5mm to 44.5 made a huge difference for everyday wear. I remember my big pilot would flop from side to side and the case lugs overhung my wrist by a tad. Maybe it was a peeve more than anything but I couldn’t get over it! This watch is very comfortable and light.

Movement wise I have noticed that all IWC’s with in house calibers run slightly faster than any other brand I owned. I would say it’s +3.5/4 a day which by all means is good but noticeable when compared to a Grand Seiko or newer rolex’s. One fine detail that I really like is that I can hear the ticking which has always been a plus for me. Last watch I remember to have this was a PAM 000.

The chronograph pushers are awesome especially when compared to the chrono variant with the valjoux 7750 (modified). The single register for hours and minutes is also very cool in my opinion. It clears up the dial and allows the 9 to be visible!

The strap is my favorite from any brand! It’s not as thick as the Santoni big pilot and is very pliable. The outer textile look is also awesome. I need to do some research but I think it’s leather made to look like Kevlar. The deployant is also top notch.

For me ceramic has always been a “scary” material for a watch case. I can’t lie, this is still a fear point for me. The thought of hitting the case against a metal door frame and shattering it is very well real. So far I have been extra careful with it and hope that won’t be an issue in the future.

Overall this chrono is one of my favorites. It fills the void I was missing with a black sporty timepiece and I’m glad I made the move to get it.
