Jaeger Lecoultre Gyrtourbillon 2 and Tribute to Gyrotourbillon side by side.

When Jaeger Lecoultre unveiled the Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2 in October 2007 ( part of the 2008 collection ) , it was a Reversolution ( contraction of Reverso and Revolution ).

There was nothing like this watch made before. The level of decoration was outstanding, the combination of a multi axis tourbillon in a rectangular case unprecedented, and they introduced the spherical spiral for this kind of tourbillon.

The Reverso Tribute to Gyrotourbillon, introduced in 2016, takes up another challenge, and not the least simple: Housing a multi axis tourbillon in a decently sized and wearable case. It also takes the opportunity to use another decoration.

On the paper, the figures don't speak loud.

The Gyrotourbillon 2 is 55 x 36 mm big, and 15, 8 mm thick.

The movement is 36 x 31 mm big and 11, 07 mm high, beating at 28, 800 vibrations per hour, made of 373 parts and 58 jewels.

The Tribute to Gyrotourbillon is 51, 1 x 31 mm big, 12, 4 mm thick.

The movement is 34, 55 x 29, 1 mm big, 7, 66 mm high, beating at 21, 600 vibrations per hour, made of 385 parts, 52 jewels.

Another difference lies in the spring: Cylindrical for the " 2 ", Hemi Spherical for the Tribute.

The Hemispherical spring of the " Tribute ":

The power reserve of the " 2 " is longer, with 50 hours, while the Tribute is only 38 hours.

The functions are slightly different: The " 2 " displays the Hours, Minutes, Seconds ( in the cage ), 24 hours, and on the back, the Reserve de Marche. The Tribute To Gyrotourbillon has the same functions, without the Reserve de Marche, but a 24 hours and a second time zone on the verso side.

The speed of rotation for the cages are different: For the " 2 ", the first cage makes a turn in one minute, the internal cage turning  making 3, 3 turns in the same time.

For the Tribute, the first cage makes a revolution in one minute the internal cage does 3, 75 turns in the same time.

That being said, in the reality, the size makes a huge difference. On the weight, first of all. If I didn't measure each of them, I can tell you that the Gyrotourbillon 2 weights an anvil, while the Tribute to Gyrotourbillon is much lighter. One precision, both cases are made of platinum.

On the Tribute, we can speak of density, while we have to speak of weight for the Gyrotourbillon 2.

The difference of size is much more important. If I wanted to make it short, I would say that the Gyrotourbillon requires a big, huge wrist to wear it, while the Tribute to Gyrotourbillon is much easier to wear.

These restricted proportions on the Tribute case make the watch look more elegant and class, too. Indeed, it is not a matter of decoration, but a question of size, here.

As we are speaking about decoration, each of these two receives a special treatment.

Hobnail for the Gyrotourbillon 2, soleillé for the Tribute. The level of decoration is at the level of the retail, impressive, and both have this sculptural beauty.

Words and figures cannot fight against some good side by side pictures.

And while we are at it, to give you a good and accurate idea of the proportions of these 2 watches, I took a couple of pictures, including a Tribute To Reverso Red we all know very well.

Now the question is to know if the Tribute to Gyrotourbillon doesn't kill the Gyrotourbillon 2. Which means a lot.

What do you think?

Best,

Nicolas
