JLC: "We are convinced that the future belongs to the small second" - Do you?
Hello, fellow Purists,
I am lately reading left and right, anything I come across on PuristS and my heart is filled with joy, having found such treasure chest of quality information.
One article (thank you, Bill) on the "tractor" 9xx movements of JLC, included a quote from the head of R&D in JLC, reading:http://indepth.watchprosite.com/show-nblog.post/ti-352097/
"+++The small second hand is placed directly on the seconds wheel. As Jean-Claude Meylan explains :¡¨We wanted to go about things in our own way and we are convinced that the future belongs to the small second."
I have always found myself attracted to small seconds but never (to date) have come across such a bold and direct statement from someone in the industry. Let alone, Director of R&D of such an iconic brand.
So, what is your take on this statement - do you agree or disagree?
Thanks!

If we're speaking about a toolwatch, I can't consider it with a small second, which is harder to read than a central second. For example, a central second is more convenient in a diving watch. While I would see wihtout problem a small second on a dressy w...
Nonsense

The statement is too extreme to be taken seriously. While some find the aesthetics of sub-second dials to be quite pleasing, there are clear, intrinsic disadvantages to such designs. From a practical standpoint, the second hand cannot be followed as easil...
I don't agree

I think Tom, in spite of the fact that we can't enounciate such a rigid rule, it is a question of aesthetics and a question of cycles. For a long period of time, there were so much watches with central second hand that the tendancy was later to do the opp...
