Hi all,
Here as promised is my input regarding my new 4770 which I was fortunate enough to receive today.
Firstly, I was taken aback by the sheer heft of all the superb quality packaging and booklets Girard Perregaux supply with their watches! It was a good call on their behalf and well appreciated!
Wish all quality Swiss manufacturers did the same...
As for the watch, I was stunned by two things, its size and its thinness. As for size, I knew it was 34mm but it's hard to imagine how delicate this size must look when I normally wear a Rolex Sub SS/Gold 16613. But more than this, I was truly surprised by just how AMAZINGLY thin and light it was. Amazing when you think that this is powered by an automatic movement.
It feels very delicate and I certainly won't be treating it with the same abandon and recklessness which I reserve for my Sub which I feel can take most forms of punishment dreamt up by God and still keep ticking with honours.
The watch sounds like a bowl of rice krispies on my wrist with the leather still adjusting to the contours and creaking and the loud rotor winding, escapement noises from the watch - I actually like this bit because it makes the watch feel very sophisticated and busy when you put it up to your ears. The movement must truly be a masterpiece of human creation - and sounds it!
The dial looks pretty special but the whole watch does make a big wrist like mine look a tad effeminate BUT my point was to have a classy dress watch and a sports watch and perhaps one day a yellow gold dress watch but it'll have to be something big like an IWC Rattrapante Portuguese. I think it'll fulfil it's duties with merit and it'll encourage me to lose a little bit of weight to fit in more with the watch.
The bottom line is I like it and I'm happy I bought it. However, nobody should buy a 34mm watch without first thinking about how it'll look on their wrist / fit their image etc.
Here are the photos :
Sorry for the quality - I am seriously not a good photographer. The Rolex Date 15200 shown for size comparison belongs to my brother. It is 15 years old and used to be mine. I gave it to him last year...
Best of luck with your G-Ps everyone!
Oooooooops!!! There seems to be some problem with the Insert Object database! It just won't accept my pictures....can Peter let me know how to get round this?
