not as interesting as Le Bims post, but my Seamaster 30 has arrived!

finally and rather embarrasingly my Seamaster 30 has arrived from the US. when it actually arrived i dont know as i only found it on saturday when i went to the shed to get my power washer out and there, just inside the door, was a small pile of mail put there by the postie when i was out. this pile included a nice square box containing this watch so i was well pleased. so is the seller as he sent it uninsured

this watch may well finish the Omega side of my 1964 collection as i can only think of one that is missing and that is the Railmaster, a piece i'm unlikely to be able to afford without good luck. i'll let you make that assessment with my upcoming post on HOME which will show all of my 1964 watches and give my reasons for buying them, but thats another story.

this particular watch is a steel cased Seamaster 30 ref 135.007-64 with a 286 calibre hand wind movement. the '30' in the name is, i think, because it has one of the 30mm movements in it which started with the 30T2's and ended with the 28X calibres like this.

a closeup of the dial shows it has a very nice diamond texture that i've not seen before. the hour markers are lumeless and have a semi circular end which looks like it was designed to take the lume. i am assuming these are a standard shape to fit all styles of watch as i've examined the dial very closely and it is original in every respect.

nice dagger hands with a strip of lume in them. even with a loupe i cant decide if the Omega symbol is applied or pressed out from the rear.

a nice 12 ridged crown which makes for easy winding.

the inside of the caseback with ref number and a fair few service marks which bodes well for the condition of the movement.

as i thought, a very nice clean 286 calibre 17 jewel handwind movement dating from 1964

a quick wristshot. despite being only 34.5mm diameter it wears bigger and doesnt look out of place on my 7.5 inch wrist.

my initial impressions are very good. the only fault i can find is the fact that its been over polished. the seamaster logo on the back is now illegible which is why there is no pic of it. Filips caseback is as new in comparison. the only saving grace for me is that the caseback cant be seen when your wearing it and the bits you can see are perfect. perhaps i can find someone to make a custom display back?? now there's an idea

the strap, as i might have mentioned when i first announced its purchase is a genuine alligator with deployment clasp. a bit over the top for a watch of this value, but its comfy so may well stay on.

anyway there you go folks, a very quick post on a nice vintage piece which sits well in the 'Omega's from '64' theme.
