Omega

It's a bit puzzling, Graham . . .

. . . I've no doubts about the genuineness of the dial because no one would go to the effort of creating the fine engraved pattern. I can't recall seeing a similar patterned dial from Omega, but the effort in creating this effect mitigates against the possibility that it's a forgery. It appears that the finish is original, too, so we're left with the odd factor of the missing lume and the disparity between the printed 'Omega' and 'Seamaster'. Could a skillful dial restorer have removed all traces of lume on the markers and re-printed over the original 'Seamaster' inscription? The one other oddity is the length of the hands, especially the hour hand . . . the overlap with the markers is not a typical characteristic of vintage Omegas:

Certainly not conclusive, but probably worth checking out with the experts. At any rate, it's got a terrific motor under the hood, and that's what counts! Cordially, Art
