Officine Panerai

Not for me, perhaps for you

Tonight one of the local dealers had a little reception to show off some of the new Panerai's. Now in general I'm not a fan of the brand, but I am a fan of free food and drink, and if that comes with watches, all the better! It was crowded, so I only got to take a look at a few of the pieces, and only take pictures of one, the new Titanium Tourbillon...I forgot to get the reference No. The dial is a lovely deep brown color, but I found the "yes the Tourb is spinning" disk under the sub-second hand superfluous, and a bit annoying. On the other hand, the perpendicular Tourbillon is great fun to watch! I've not gotten a chance to see the JLG Gyrotourbillon up close, but this reminded me of that in pictures. I apologize, the following pictures were taken in a hurry at high ISO, and are not the greatest
Here is the dial

and the movement

The finish of the movement is very good, but it feels machine done to me. Perhaps it is the lack of corners, or other elements that can't be done by machine, that made it feel mechanical. I do find the addition of a lumed hand for the RdM on the back an amusing touch...when would it get enough light to charge the lume?
