Now a Lange guy...
Had a chance to acquire this piece, and couldn't pass it up. It's certainly consistent with my recent vow to sell off many of my more modest pieces and focus in on a smaller number of really special watches:
Sorry that these images are not up to my usual standard, but my DSLR and macro lens are 5500 miles away at the moment -- I'll try to take and post some better shots next week.
Best,
Gary G

Spectacular watch!

Congratulations, Gary, on this Datograph! A lovely executed watch with a convenient big date and a sapphire back which exposes the beauty of the movement. Even if I would "concentrate" my collection, it would not do for this lovely watch, sigh .... I find...
Thank you Gary

I have read (only) and followed this forum for a couple years ago. You and many guys here are my inspiration for Datograph. Your post stimulated me to share my Datograph I rarely see anybody talk about datograph in pink gold.
Sorry you missed out, CL

But happy that I was able to capitalize on the opportunity! You have no doubt had a Dato on your wrist -- my thought based on some of your past posts is that the RG may be better for small wrists, given that it is lighter overall than the PT version and t...
Gary, fabulous!

Congrats on this watch! You know my opinion--the Dato ranks up there with the all-time best watches, and this one is simply beautiful, front and back, and on and off the wrist. We do need to get together for a "Dato lunch"!
A roll indeed, Horo

...with a couple of special pieces inbound over the next several months! This is turning out to be a big year for me, with (so far) the Thalassa, the VC OS Ti/SS Chrono, and the Dato -- and a special piece from KV and (fingers crossed) my Vyskocil VA stil...
Datograph...

... is certainly one of those "special watches" you mention! The iconic Lange! Big congratulations Gary! This is a perfect addition to your already stunning collection! Best of best in Indies and best of best of best in biggies. Will we see a family shot?...
Will work on family shots
By: Gary G : March 5th, 2011-22:28
Hi sydney, Great idea for a family shot. I'm thinking that a first shot might focus on the "icons" that I have been fortunate enough to collect -- those pieces that (at least to me) represent the essence of their makers: 1. Lange Datograph 2. AP Equation ...
You are too kind, Oliver

,,,as usual! I really appreciate your post, and will do my best to create some worthy photos during the coming week. Thanks also for the warm welcome to the LOG -- having sat in with that august group in Geneva, I am very pleased to be a legitimate member...
Congrats Gary!

You really have got yourself one of the best chronos out there, with a movement second to none! The RG will sit much better on the wrist than the heavier Pt. and probably be less common ( relatively speaking). cheers fernando
RG vs. PT
By: Gary G : March 7th, 2011-05:11
Thanks, Fernando -- I am sure that you are absolutely right about the weight of the watch on the wrist, as the Dato does sit high up. As for being less "common," I know what you mean! I'm a big PG/RG guy, so perhaps not as bothered by having a "non-PT" ex...

Now I have to fulfill the vow about selling off the other pieces! My wife and I have a deal that any watch purchase amounts not offset by sales have to be matched in her "jewelry fund" -- so I have a double incentive to trim my collection... Best, Gary
Hey, SJX

Great to hear from you! Don't know what's gotten into me these past several weeks, but I can't keep up this pace of additions to my collection, can I? Someone else noted that I'm now almost 1-for-1 in watch dinners attended in Geneva and watches of those ...
Thanks, Stephen

The finishing really is lovely -- and for me the dial is just as crisp as the movement. You may well be right that this is not my last -- I've been thinking about the TZ for several years now, and my experience so far with the Dato is making me even more ...
