Patek Philippe

Patek pocketwatch movements. identifying help please.

hi,

i know very little about PP watches, but i am interested in buying an oversize watch with pocketwatch movement. i'm a firm believer that if the case has already been sold for scrap its better to utilise the movement in a new steel case than junk it.

there are quite a lot claiming to be pateks. i know that if its clearly marked Patek Phillippe & Cie Geneve, serial number, micrometer regulater and has wolf's teeth winding wheels/cogs/whatever then its a fairly safe bet, but there are quite a few from late 19th C with no wolf's teeth and only retailers id on movement. i usually only look at fully marked items, but is there anything else i can do to identify the movement as a PP? it would be a shame to miss out on a nice patek movement just because i cant identify it.

i've looked in cooksey schugart, but its as useful as a chocolate teapot smile

please put any issues you might have about 'marriages' to one side and give whatever help you can.

regards from a man with good taste and limited funds smile

Graham
