Rolex GMT MASTER 6542 and Rolex Submariner 5508.
Inspired by Bill's post on the Rolex GMT MASTER 1675 and Submariner 5513, what about an older comparison picture between the GMT MASTER and the Submariner, with the references 6542 and 5508?
The cases have the same size, and both of them are no crown guards AND Chapter ring, both belonging to the same era, here 1958 for the GMT MASTER 6542 and 1959 for the Submariner 5508.
Which makes the comparison relevant, too.
But, at the contrary of Bill's example, here we are at a totally different level of collection.
Indeed, if you want to go farther in the vintage Rolex collection from the same era, then you will have to hunt a 6610 Explorer, which is not easy to find, and a certain Milgauss ref... 6541, which will cost your two kidneys.
Lucky you, the Daytona came later, and the 1665 SeaDweller too. But still...
I am not sure these posts are a good idea...
Best,
Nicolas
