SIHH 2014: fireworks of complications from Cartier!

I'm currently working on the Cartier report.

But in the meantime, I couldn't resist to propose you a very quick summary of what Cartier proposed us at the 2014 SIHH.

Once again, Cartier was one of the most (in not the most) creative brands of the Salon. The new collection is large but more interestingly, it gathers a wide range of complication.

The Rotonde Earth and Moon plays with the Tourbillon... but the watch gathers 3 main complications: the Tourbillon, the moon phase (on demand!) and the double time zone. You will notice the very original way to display the double time zone thanks to a peripheral disk around the time sub-dial. The Tourbillon is not a "passive" complication here: the owner of the watch can display the moon phase thanks to a disk which moves over the Tourbillon.

The Rotonde Astrocalendar is a true revolution: a visual revolution thanks to the hypnotizing flying Tourbillon but also a technical revolution thanks to the way the Perpetual calendar data are displayed and to the architecture of the movement. This movement was developped in order to make it more reliable and to easily set the data: everything is done by handling the crown except the day of the week which is set thanks to the pusher. A really innovative watch which offers an unique dial lay-out.

The Tank Louis Cartier skeleton sapphire is one of my fav watches of the Salon. I find here all the elegance and the refined style of Cartier. The skeleton movement seems to float between the sapphires and the way it decorates the watch is absolutely gorgeous. I appreciate the contrast between the rectangular shape of the case and the circular shape of the main bridge.

The Rotonde Day and Night gaves us the opportunity to find again the sun and moon motif combined with a retrograde display of the moon phase. A very poetic watch! We almost forget the minute hand... we have different relationships with time with such watch because we are focused on slow motion complications.

The last watch of this selection offers a new way to use the movement 9438MC. The Rotonde Tourbillon Tourbillon Chronograph is powered by a Renaud&Papi movement with a 8 days power reserve. The Tourbillon features a vertical bridge and a small second hand.

More to come later! Because Cartier didn't proposed us only complicated watches! The Artistic side was also highlighted and the most important piece of the collection remains the Calibre Diver.
