Small surgery…

I don’t know if you have noticed, but: vintage bracelets are simply brilliant!

Why? Because they look so much better then the moderns?

Well, that is a matter of taste…

No, because they made to be easy to put on and to be comfortable!

So how does it work?

The bracelet has an elastic part in the clasp or the double folding clasp.

Here is an example of the double folding clasp.

As you can see the elastic part makes it easier to put the watch on the wrist.

And during the day when your wrist is swollen it makes it possible for the bracelet to expand.

Here shown with some “extra” thickness on the wrist.

On the single clasp version you don’t need extra room to put on your watch but you still need the extra room for a swollen wrist.

This extra room is much smaller on the clasp version, but enough.

Seen here full expanded.

On these 35+ old bracelets the expansion spring are often broken which results in a too long inelastic bracelet.

Same as for many of the modern once, a numb feeling and you have to choose between a too long or a too short bracelet.

Time for surgery no knives required!

Step 1: open the clasp.

Step 2: remove the broken expansion spring.

Step 3: try to find something to replace it with.

Hm, I wonder if this paperclip will do the job?

Step 4: shape the new spring.

Step 5: put the clasp back in place.

Feels somewhat OK.

Back to there original look!

Unfortunately the paperclip doesn’t have the right amount of elastic in it.

So I will have to try to find something better to use.

But you get the idée… Why I think vintage bracelets are simply brilliant!
