Food & Wine

Some nice wines and great company makes for an excellent weekend

Had some good friends round on Saturday night and being the eclectic mix of nationalities we were I felt I had to try out a couple of surprises..

These were some of the wines we tried.

The Cuvée Louise 99, normally a favourite of mine, was perhaps, at or slightly past its best? Still delicious but didn't wow me in the way it has in the past.

The Amorone was perfect served with chorizo stuffed pancetta wrapped dates with a cider and shallot confit.

The 2007 Brunello was actually drinking very very nicely after a couple of hours decanted... served with seared beef with fennel seeds on rocket salad... simple but tasty!

The Pur Sang (from the Loire) was a surprise to me... not had it before but the minute I tried a taste via the coravin system I knew it would have to be served up with the cheeses! It actually has a nose of slightly ripe Camembert!! Intriguing...

The 82 Sudiuraut from Sauternes was amazing and topped off the evening!

Perhaps just as well for the state of my head hat we didn't get too far into the Ron Zacapa XO, Hennessy Xo or my large collection of malts!!!
