| I posted this thread recently on Timezone and a member suggest that I post on a few more Forums. I appreciate any thoughts you may have.... About eight years ago my parents home was broken into and my dad's Lange & Sohne Datograph was stolen along with some of my mom's jewelry. It was a sad affair -- and given the location (outside Portland Oregon) and circumstances (we think a construction worker working on a home remodel across the street was casing the house and notified a buddy when my dad left to mail a letter. He was gone 20 minutes and left the house unlocked. The thief walked in, walked right to the bedroom, grabbed jewelry and watches, and walked out. Nothing else was taken), I seriously doubt the thief had any idea what he (or she) snagged. At the time we did what we could to facilitate its return: we notified the police and filed a report, visited all of the local jewelry stores / pawn shops; and my dad notified Lange in the event that the watch was ever turned in for servicing. Then, he moved on (and bought a new watch)! This evening my parents came by for dinner and my dad gave me the Datograph box and papers -- thinking it might be something fun for my six year old to store his 'treasures' (i.e., matchbox cars) in. My dad has obviously accepted that the watch is gone -- but the interaction left me thinking about the watch again and inspired me to reach out for some advice from the timezone community (and to secretly daydream that the power of the internet would somehow allow me to discover the watches whereabouts). As I mentioned the watch was a Datograph in Platinum; Model No. 403.035; Case No. 167025; Movement No. 47486. Originally purchased in May 2007 from Simonetta Orsini Obviously, given the time that has passed I have zero expectations. But wouldn't it be cool if my (momentary) revitalized hope and belief that timing is everything would result in maybe, just maybe, someone out there having some advice as to where to look next -- or a clue as to where this watch has been hiding for the last decade?!?! I can only imagine the amazing adventure it's had -- and how far it's traveled given the how special these watches are. Thanks for any thoughts or advice you may have. Best, TH |
