Two dive watches off the beaten paths.
Besides the omnipresent brands that are part of one of the big watch/luxury groups and of course the big three of independants (Rolex/PP/AP) there are also a few other brands that have established themselves in the "affordable luxury" price range that offer great quality and a very comprehensive collection with a recognizable design language.Brands like Nomos,Sinn,Oris, Anonimo, Doxa,...
Here are two dive watches from Oris and Anonimo that have for sure a different look but have nevertheless many things in common:
- real diving capabilities with 300 m WR for the Oris and 200 m WR for the Anonimo
- similar wrist presence : the Oris at 43.5 mm but wearing a bit smaller ; the Anonimo at 42mm and wearing a bit larger due to the cushion shaped case
- fumé dials
- Sellita SW 200 movement which is a logical choice for these watches
- ceramic bezels
- similar price point and uncompromised quality for the case, dial and bracelet/strap
The Oris is the Aquis Date "Lake Baikal" limited edition with a few extra points of personal sympathy for supporting a good ecological cause.
Since many years the Aquis Dive watch is a main pillar for the Oris brand and is considered by many as a reference for the chosen price point.

Anonimo is now since 2-3 years very serious in rebuilding its collection focusing to more elegant and more wearable watches with of course still some stylistic references to its Italian dive watch heritage.
The watch is the Nautilo Vintage on leather strap but also available with a steel bracelet.

The highlight of the watches are of course the superb fumé type dials. Icy blue for the Oris ...

...and a kind of bronze color for the Anonimo. They refer to this reference as "chocolate" but this is surely more true for the bezel color.

The dial quality is comparable to watches at a much higher asking price.

Both have strong case designs with a lot of attention to detail.
I believe that it is difficult to find much better quality at that price point.Of course we should not forget that a +- 2k price point is still not accessible for the large majority of people on this planet !!
Both watches are not perfect though. For the Anonimo I would have wished for a closed caseback with some nice engraving as I do not really need to see the SW200 through a display back.
I mentioned that both watches have the SW200 movement.Oris is however not very ambitious in regulating this movement with a result of +10 sec/day deviation.Anonimo shows that this can be done much better at +4 sec/day deviation. This lack of regulation (Oris even claims +20 sec as being within their norm) would probably prevent me from buying another of their watches.I am however very impressed with the Anonimo and I would not hesitate to add another to my collection.
Thanks for looking,
Gerard
