Two Grand Seiko 5646's
Hi all -
So a few weeks back I was very happy to acquire a 5646-7010, with its amazing 9-faceted cut glass crystal.
My aim with my Grand Seiko collection is to collect one piece of each of the historical movements, of which there are 22.
But when another, in some ways similar, but in others, radically different 5646 became available, I couldn't help but to pick it up.
Here's a shot of the two together so you can see the differences. On the left, the newly arrived 5646-7020, and on the right, the -7010.

As you can see, the crystal on the '20 is cut much deeper. Everything else is different too - the case, dial, hands, and hour markers. A much "funkier" look to it, which I really enjoy.
Clearly the product manager at Grand Seiko was having a lot of fun in the early 1970's! I'll be keeping my eye out for more pieces like this as I think they make for a great side-collection!
Kind regards,
Gerald.

I'm surprised by the strength of the 20s the facets being much deeper & reflected in the case. It wasn't until looked properly at the 10 I could see where the facets are - the hands appear to step, but it's more subtle. good to have them both Cheers J...
