Two recent passings: one transpired, the other . . .
. . . professional.
Ray Thomas died a few weeks ago.

A founding member of the Moody Blues, he was that rarest of rockers: a wind player. Flute mostly, but also others, including oboe and French horn.
Saw him perform once, at the Hollywood Bowl in the early '90s. Came across more as a policeman than a musician, and notably clumsy onstage.
But what a musician. And his lyrical contributions to the Moodies catalog are my favorite amongst the cast.
Rumors were the Moodies attempted to bring Ray (and Mike Pinder) back for last year's tour, but both declined. The word 'sad' has been overused lately, but that's how I feel knowing he's gone forever.
Then today, there was an announcement about Neil Diamond being forced into retirement due to Parkinson's. More pop than rock, but a tremendous onstage performer by all accounts.
No video here . . . just listen to him sing.
Again, I'm sad . . . never saw him on stage, and now, I never will.
Farewell, Ray, and sorry to have never met, Neil. I hope the rest of your life will be meaningful, even if your performing days are behind you.
