Two sisters: Rolex 6542 versus 5508.
Some months ago, I posted a picture of two holy monsters, the 6542 and the Tudor 7924, side by side, two champions in their respective category, both from exactly the same year ( 1958 ) :
But if we want to have a closer approach in terms of aesthetics, the 6542 has to be compared to another nice Submariner, the 5508, or even better, the 6536.
Since I don't own, yet, a 6536, I will happily deal with my 5508.
Thin case, small crown, slightly domed bezel ( for the 5508, but the 6542 could receive one, too, without magnyfier ), lacquered dial with gilt writings, there were more than one common point between these 2 watches:

Taking good pics is also a matter of luck.
I spent two hours this morninig, trying to take pics of a certzin JLC Mark XI, its movement, and I sent all the pics in the bin.... As for these two Rolex pics, luck was on my side. Love, too. Like hunting them... Best, my friend. Nicolas.

Aren't we fortunate with digital cameras these days, comparing with film before? Your 6542 is almost a perfect specimen and the 5508 is the best I've seen( not that I've seen many). I am still trying to learn the lingo for all the terms to describe the ma...
You should think about a trip, here... There are some real nice stuff.

Well, Edmond, I wouldn't say that the 200 m is more common than the 100 m...
Especially in this case, where the 200 m is the Tudor 7924, which had a production of approxiamtively .... 200 pieces. BUT the 100 m no crownguard Sud 5508 is certainly closer to the 6542 than the Big Crown 7924. Thanks for your nice words, my friend. Bes...

About the lollypop
it depends on the serial of the case, I don't think 6542 GMT's from 1958 used to carry lollypop, only white second hands. And the same I think for the 5508, this model never carried lollypop too, even for the early years. Just my opinion. ;-)
