Two Watch Collection – Part 2 – Mighty Rolexes

For Rolex fans, when they are asked about only 2 Rolex watches that they can keep for the rest of their life , most of them would say : a Submariner and a datejust. Rightfully so, because these are the backbones and icons that define Rolex. Some may argue about the Daytona and GMT, but still, the best selling and known Rolex are these two. However, when he/she does not need a diver, and prefer more under the radar , versatile watch that seamlessly worn from beach, mountain, to board meeting, there is a strong candidate : Explorer. So Explorer and Datejust will be the second most obvious choice.









As you can see, I put them on straps on purpose , just to show how versatile they are. The explorer is a strap monster, it can be worn on almost any strap. Brushed lugs, bracelet, and polished sides, makes this watch fit for any circumstances except the very formal situation as with tuxedo/suit. The datejust can be worn on black or blue strap, crocodile or calf. But the fact that the case is entirely polished, means that datejust is less versatile, although i’ve seen Datejust worn as an only watch, in every situation, even with jubilee bracelet. However, the versatility of Rolex is limited by one thing : their stubborness of pushing us using their stock bracelet, thus the position of the lug hole, the “teeth” between the lugs that “eat” the straps. I really hate it. Given that both of these have similar spec, same 100 meter water resistant, same movement, but different vibe, i think these can make a perfect 2-Rolex watch collection. Of course, if you are a massive Rolex fan and do not care about other brands. What do you think?
