Walking where the river meets the sea
We started off with A Good sign, a hummingbird going for pollen from the flowering yuccas along our path.

We have never walked in this area, partly because half of every day it is underwater. But it's low tide now, and here we are.

with plenty of aquatic bird life too.

Someone is para-sailing in the distance, over the river entrance, and a dog owner is unleashing her pets.

But remembering this is a wildlife sanctuary too, not just a dog beach.

A small pack of children with summer camp leader; they are having fun running in and out of the water...

The marine plants are very colorful here

We see a cyclist in the distance, what the heck is he doing out there with a bicycle?

Apparently he's tired of walking the bike on the sandy path so he sloshes through the river over to the dry land.

We are nearing the Dog Beach end of the river, and we can see the boat channel here as well.

There are the para-sailors coming back from their excursion. How do I know? The boat is called Sky Rider.

She looks healthy.

Our attention turns back to the birds. I see a ripple as a fish comes to the surface and is snatched up by an observant flying fisherman.
Other birds are at work on foot.

This guy is hunting for lunch in the river.

He juts back and forth, catching a few tiny fish.

This hummingbird is getting lunch too.
Stops for a brief rest (giving me a clear shot, thanks!)

Scrapes a little pollen off his bill

Shrugs his shoulders, looking tired.

PS - Mr or Mrs Hummingbird, come over here to the Plumeria - it looks ready for you!

Not Hawaii but it sure seems like it sometimes.

That's all for today. Thanks for looking.
