You won't see this one every day....
I got a surprise in my mailbox this afternoon. It was the catalog for the Patrizzi & Co auction taking place on April 19 in Geneva, to which I had not subscribed. Of course the first thing I do when I open a catalog is seek out the VC's up for bid and it was this particular watch that blew me away, Lot 209:
The 6087 is rare enough, with only 36 examples produced, but this is the only one known to have a black dial. While the watch was born with a silver dial, VC changed it to this one at the request of a client, so it is authentic (and the watch comes with VC's Certificate of Authenticity). This reference is one of the most sought after of the vintage VC chronographs because of the distinctive horn lugs, the inner soft-iron dust cap that protects the movement from becoming magnatized, and the heightened water resistance provided by the screw down case back and chronograph pusher caps
There are many other excellent watches from Vacheron Constantin up for bid, including a vintage minute repeater wristwtach and some other fine chronographs. I urge you to check out the catalog, which is also availbale online. Or if you are in Geneva, to go see these watches at the auction preview.
