I have found the Journes to be a brand capable of keeping my interest for a variety of reasons. Subjectively, the beauty of the Resonance, Tourbillion, Calendrier and other fantastic pieces sings to my soul. More objective thought leads one to the conclusion that FP Journe is an amazing brand, winning more awards over the past 6 years then any other watch manufacture aside from Patek (who must have many, many multiples of R&D, marketing and advertising capital above FPJ).
I have only been a Journe fanatic for less than a year. But this was the brand that reinvigorated me. I sold my Pateks. I sold my Langes. It was an easy choice for me. If you read my prior postings, as well as those from others who are far more knowledgeable than I, you will quickly learn about the brand and its import on the horological world.
Specific to the dead seconds, I owned one and liked it very much; however it was too dressy for me (I tend to wear jeans or shorts to work) as an every day piece. I actually found that I loved the older (2003/4) remontoir tourbillion (pre dead seconds) more (although they are very difficult to find). I hope never to sell that particular piece. Yet, I know a number of fellow WIS who happily prefer the dead seconds.
Specific to your questions; I know of no problems with any of the Journe the tourbs. They are fantastic. Period.
The secondary pricing is very strong (in fairness, you likely understand that much of the watch increases are due to the weakness of the US dollar). The dead seconds tourbillion had an approximately 14% increase in early 2007, and the pre owned pieces jumped accordingly. You ask if the tourb is "strong enough" to wear daily. If we were at Talladega Raceway I'd tell ya' that the Dead Seconds is a smoking hot
IMHO, it blows away most everything else (although the Resonance is a killer piece, too). I was on the phone with a fellow WIS today and he stated a position that I concur with; that any watch over $100k should be a tourbillion. At that price point the beauty of the tourb cage and, in the case ot the Journe, the dead seconds and (far more importantly IMHO) the remontoir function simply smote other more mundane and common complications.
For resale; tough to find used Journes. Get em' while you can.
Certainly not all will agree with my position about tourb's, but, my next point is less subjective, and that is that of the tourbs on the market for less than $150,000 the Dead Seconds is not only by far the "best" (OK, bad choice in grammar...), but the best value. i think the Journes are likely 20% to 50% under priced when comparing the hand made character and fabulously built mechanics to mass produced counterparts that, in my view, Don't Come Close.
Back to your last question. The wrist time issue for the dead seconds is based on your own tastes. I purchased mine to wear once a month, but then I also ended up owning three other Journes and decided to swap out and get the original piece (I simply LOVE the visible remontoir on the yg dial).
The Journes are the real deal. If you purchase right, you can likely always trade w/o too much pain.
PS: Not to add to the confusion... but take a look at the attached pre dead seconds. You don't even remember what your Patek looked like do ya?! haa ha. My advice; enjoy!
