I only have a 49910, but I have to assume it has the same strap size, although I'm not 100% sure about the 40mm version. Standard Strap is 21mm with 19mm buckle and curved at the lugs. I don't think a straight strap will fit very well due to the placement of the springbar.
I personally think an original strap will look best and there are lots of possible options, but may require some patience to find the right one you like. On my 49910 I have actually fitted a 22mm strap and it is no problem (I have been swapping straps around between watches and on the Sea Hawk the slightly bigger 22mm is no issue). I would not recommend to go the other way, as it looks awful with a gap IMHO.
You can also go for 16mm at the buckle, if you can invest into a new buckle. An original steel tang buckle from an AD is quite affordable, I just ordered one myself.
So that leaves you with a number of possible choices: 21-19, 21-16, 22-19 and 22-16 (not recommended for a small wrist). Depending on the dial colour a brown or black croco strap would look very classy.
