What fascinates me about Girard-Perregaux is exactly that contrast: sometimes it feels for me like two manufactures in one.

On one side, absolute top haute horlogerie (pieces like the Neo Bridges or the Three Bridges Tourbillon are just outstanding!!).

Just look at this watch!!












(I did my best with my iPhone but I am not a professional photographer 🙏).

And then there are models like parts of the Laureato line that sit more in the “normal” range, with surprisingly little in between…?

That’s just my impression, of course. I would be happy to be corrected, especially by someone like you who knows GP inside out.
I see a similar pattern at JLC.

On one end you have incredible pieces like the Duomètre or the Hybris Mechanica, and on the other a broader range like Master Control or Reverso. Very solid, but sometimes less distinctive than it used to be in the upper-mid segment.

Still, when GP is at its best, it’s really something special. Then for me it’s top of the top.

I actually find the watch even more beautiful in real life, too. On photos it also appears quite large on the wrist, which it isn’t in reality. The reflections are very difficult right to capture. I am playing a little bit while sitting in the waiting roo...

GP is indeed two companies in one. The haute horology is a totally different department from the mainstream laureato. In 1988-90, when the GM Francois Besson did a management buy out from DESCO, he brought back the High Horology. When Luigi Macaluso bough...

I really like the concept of flying bridges replacing the main plate to give the movement a floating effect. I wonder how robust this system is, and whether it keeps decent time.
