Talking of service, can anyone recommend a watchmaker in Florida or somewhere else (I don't mind shipping)? I have a guy I usually take my vintage watches to, but last two he did a terrible job (returned dirty, not polished even a bit, replaced crown and some other parts and only gave me back the mainspring and with some of the original problems still there) and charged me a lot. I'm looking for someone that loves and takes care of vintage and won't charge an arm and a leg for it?

yes, almost all Gyromatics (HF or not) with calibers 31 to 33 have the problem that with time the winding via the crown is getting stiffer and stiffer. Even after service, this typically remains. Don't force it. The Gyromatic auto-winding is very efficien...

I did read somewhere it has to do with the Gyromatic design and only replacing original parts will fix it for a while before it gets stiff again. Just accept that as a vintage flaw as long as everything else works well. Finding a good local watchmaker? Ne...

the GXM eport code on many of the Gyromatic High Frequency Chronometers and I suspect that most of the production was sent through Jean Graef in New York to be distributed throughout North America. Where else is everyone sourcing theirs from? I bought one...
