then there are many of us on the purists.com! 
The good news is that achieving great photos is no longer the hallowed realm of the wealthy or the gifted. It just takes a fair bit of practice and the right equipment. My suggestion is to shoot a watch a week and read as widely as possible on watch photography (online) and photography magazines - that will shorten your learning curve dramatically. You will progressively see improvement over the months.
