could you maybe post a picture of the damage? It would make it easier to say something reasonable.
In general one would not expect the strap to develop cracks after one year. I would not even expect so if the watch was worn regularly or under especially dry or damp conditions. That is why you buy a
sports watch after all. (Diving/Swimming excluded; there is the rubber strap for that kind of activity.).
I assume that you did not expose the strap to extreme conditions like chemical influences or similar.

Mine Trieste strap is still perfect
I have a PanoMaticReserve XL with the Trieste strap. I bought it 13 months ago and the strap does not show any sign of wear. Please note that I don’t use it everyday because I use four different GO randomly. Best Jarle

i think the irony here is that the strap is supposed to be more durable than a regular leather strap, as far as i understand. on the other hand, perhaps we are just two outliers in an otherwise solid performing strap.

I brought the watch to my AD and though the strap wasn't under warranty they repaired it. They did a great job (you would never know it was repaired) and didn't charge me. As I said before, the strap had separated between the top black fabric and the red ...
