. . . so you have a natural affinity with modern contraptions . . . I, on the other hand, have little technical ability and less patience. I'm also one of those guys who doesn't comprehend what's written in most instruction books, so I'm going to hold off until I find a willing tutor before firing up the D40X again except for portrait photos under controlled lighting (see my pics above that were taken a few months ago with the D40X / 105 mm macro lens). The 5100 Coolpix is a breeze to use, and is probably better suited to a novice like myself; after all, I don't have any illusions about becoming a good photographer . . . photography is, for me, an incidental interest driven by my passion for watches and my desire to share that passion with the rest of our community. It's nearly incredible that you shot your pics with one hand while you pose with the watch on the other hand! And without any tripod. And what I like most of all, is this mind-blowing depth of focus. Cordially, Gerd

Hi Art! I'm pleased that you have a camera that can be used for the type of shots you like to take. To be honest, a 105mm Macro (or Micro) lens is not a good one for wrist shots since the working distance is too great. Personally I have a D40x and use a 6...

As I re-read my post, let me be clear on one point. When I say even if you "have the cash to splash" you could shoot great photos like Aaron... I mean after A LOT OF PRACTICE. I don't know Aaron, but his work speaks for itself; so don't let me lead you to...

for her photographic course at College. the D40x is a superb camera and you look like you really understand it. i use my daughters cast offs, a Fuji finepix s5600 which is a highly recommended not quite SLR digital. i dont really understand it so i must g...
