Evaluating the X4 and GLC as enthusiasts' vehicles...

I know this originated in an automotive context, but I see much relevance to the world of horology and "brands" INCLUDING eponymous independents.

What qualifies as high horology?
Which models?
Are Rolex and Vacheron high horology?
Is Grand Seiko no?
Can Grand Seiko ever make high horology?

Can a sports watch be a fine watch? (A la can a heavy high SUV be an enthusiasts' vehicle?

The MB and BMW crossovers aside, Porsche has made it a corporate specialty to bust assumptions about categories and types...witness the high performance Panamera and Cayenne model ranges...)

Are purists too closed minded and parochial?

Probably dishonest. To the point:certainly VC is a Haute Horlogerie brand. Certainly the Rolex Prince and the Rolex Cellini are H.H. Grand Seiko? Yes. To me, haute horlogerie is using horological skills/manufacturing processes to the utmost quality to cre... 

This whole topic even has relevance to that current un-pc word

"Profiling" - the human mind MUST categorize and group, and extrapolate from that. To not do that is to risk injury or death... But hopefully as humans who think we are something more than brutes and pure savage animals (hmmm...) we should be able to cast...
