Horological Meandering

A business counterpoint....

The old Union watches were only for Austria and Germany, thus very limited legal channels.  Yes - we had grey imports in some countries but not enough for the masses.

Some of the manufacturing capacity of the GO movements were diverted to Union. With the rise in demand for GO, every prestige movement is needed for the prestige brand.

For the increasing demand for German-made and especially Glaushette-made watches, there was a gap at the high end that could be plugged with the re-positioned Union. The other brands in Saxony are not in the same league as GO in the positioning.

Glashuette Original owners were uncomfortable with the same (but older) GO movements being used in a cheaper Union range; that may have diluted the "prestige" of the GO.  Now, there is a clear division of brands in Glashuette town:  prestige, high and medium...
