I hope to devote some time to thinking through it and hopefully contribute something back commensurate with what I've gotten from your thoughts. In the meantime, I just want to thank you for sharing such an articulate post.
One quick note...I completely agree with your assessment of the watch community on IG. I'm overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content that is suddenly available, after years of struggling to find any information on mechanical watches. But this blessing has come at a cost. As collecting has become more mainstream, it's become harder and harder to find the intellectual satisfaction that comes from learning from discussion. In other words, posts like these are absent from IG.
