Hi Joepny
I believe it is a mixture of all three for me. I get bored with many watches but a good few I will never part with. I have anything I want and am so fortunate for that, but I got in in this place from a great deal of drive, ambition, accomplishment, passion and hard work. If you are a person like me, those gifts, they do not go away but metamorphoses into other areas, some you may see right away other may take many years of maturity.
I have been collecting watches for 11 years and it was a process to discover what I like and then it changed again. Panerai was my first love, then to Rolex and Patek and now moving towards independents albeit Rolex and Patek are the two “commercialized” winners along with being top notch watches that deliver to their customers (most the time) in ascetics, function, great design and of course value.
I find myself looking (too much) at the value proportion because I’m a businessman who loves the chase, I believe younger entrepreneurs will have the same genetics, a combination of love, value and playing the game of finding what you want and then doing it over again, IMHO. Other (non fanatics) will just enjoy the different style changes, mechanical innovations and pure pleaseue “your’ watch can bring.
There is such artistry and sensory input that is different in every true watch maker (especially independents) they will keep creating desirable watches that will tickle the fancy of young and old I think we will never see one kind/style/color/movement that takes over.
Here’s to what I hope is never ending passion to go further, better and enjoy the ride...Jim
