Some of those exam halls are converted sports arenas, after all. People will latch onto anything to excuse poor performance, especially when the ego is at risk. I wore a Seiko Kinetic quartz watch when I wrote exams all those years ago. Perhaps there’s an opportunity for Swatch to build a young market. Everyone gets a standard issue analog watch, your responsibility to ensure it’s running and set to standard time the morning of the exam.

Despite knowing a lot of Gen Z will never own analog watches it is still fascinating that some of those kids cannot intuitively read an analog dial! Cheers, Filip

As an educator, I am truly not surprised.
We have been instructed that if a student is caught cheating on any exam, it's an administrative issue. Not the classroom teacher. Therefore no penalty can be given. No zero on said exam. They must be allowed to retake the exam.
So sad!
A friend of mine just told me yesterday that in Italy they are not teaching kids anymore how to read the clock (he has a 7 year old daughter), so he has to teach her, such a shame

Luckily our public elementary school still teaches to tell time. My 7 y-o daughter just learnt to.
And she nicely reads the old way, like 10 to 8, instead of 7.50. Just wish she will remember in the future! Best, Max
Having been publisher of a US math curriculum, I can tell you that “teaching how to tell time” is the math teacher’s responsibility
But they also have to teach calendars and seasons and hours minutes seconds, etc in “addition” to arithmetic, geometry, algebra, etc. So analog time falls by the wayside. BTW in general curricula have also given up teaching Roman Numerals and what those s...
