Well for me there seems to be a very big difference between the ‘old’ and ‘new’ IWC. Mainly in design and their product range. Personally, I bought an IWC after reading about the brands history and admiring their older watches. I then looked at the current range particularly like the Pilot and Portuguese lines, so I got a Portuguese. I also got a MkXII. I think the quality of construction was not as good in the Portuguese hand wound as the MkXII, particularly the dial and the hands. This is only my visual impression though. Also, my experience with the Richemont service centre in Sydney was terrible when I sent it back for warranty issues (poor daily rate, oil spots and dust in movement, poor finish on seconds hand, dust and what appeared to be smudges on dial). No big deal, I thought it would be simple but they accused me of opening and tampering with the watch!
Anyway, that was just my experience. No to say all watches and experiences are poor from IWC. It just seems to me that there has been a transition from an old school tool watch manufacturer to a ‘luxury’ brand. Maybe I was just unlucky though
my opinion is their older models are much more attractive.
