I have been been into watches for 12 years or so and been really collecting for maybe 7 years. I have always wanted to buy from my local AD, just more of a comfort thing and why not buy local. When I decided to buy my Breitling superocean yellow abyss I went in and talked to the sales rep tried it on and then I made a offer. A price I knew I could buy online brand new from a reputable dealer and what I feel was a very fare price. They turned me down and kind of made me feel like I had no business being in there. Well I went online and bought the watch no regrets doing it when there's to big of a price difference. Sometime had passed and I had got a few more watches one being my Panerai Pam 106. I had taken it in to my local AD to get appraised for insurance, a different sales rep which was great said they had a Panerai event coming up and asked me if I wanted to come. I did and it was great!! It was at Ruth Chris, food and drinks where paid they had a gift bag when you left with a hat and book in it! They had all the new 2015 watches at the event and I got to try them all on it was a unbelievable time.

That event was so great I saw the 505 there and I had been looking at the 292 but wow that 505. I love watches and being around and getting to talk with other watch lovers so that event was a lot of fun for me. So after about 6 months I had decided to pick up my 505 went in and talked to a sales rep at the local AD about the 505 but they didn't have one in stock and I had done my research and was willing to buy one overseas brand new full warranty at a great price. If they would have offered a discount and tried to sell me the watch I would have maybe bought it from them for the comfort factor of not buying overseas, but they didn't. Well almost a year had passed and I went to my local AD again trying to pick up my first Rolex. I had been eyeing the 216570. I wanted the white dial and I had been in a few times asking about it and final I said I was going to go buy it. I had did my research again and knew I could get it from a very reputable dealer online new with warranty for a very good price. I went in to my local AD again and they didn't have the watch in stock and I made them a super fare offer a little more then what I was able to get it for online and they basically laughed at me. They told me they would give me 100 off. So what did I do again bought it online. I have no regrets buying on line cause I do my research on the seller and watch before I buy. I'm glad I save the extra money which I'm just using to put back into the hobby I have a passion for.
I live in the Midwest United States and there isn't to much as in watch clubs or events to go to. The local AD runs a watch club for him and his friends I have asked to go to events or gtg but I think it's just like I said for him and his friends cause they never put out invites just post there pics on the IG. The day after I got my Rolex they knew they had missed out on a sale again and they called me and asked me to go to a Tudor event they were having that night. I was busy that night and with no notice I was a little insulted cause they know me when I come in there store by name and don't want to give me a invite for a event that I'm alway asking them if they have any gtg let me know. I get it if there like he's not buying from us so we don't what him at are events which is fare, but I have tried to buy from them and still will try to buy from them and I look at it like maybe they won't make as much off me in one sale but over time and many sales they will be making money off me or missing out I guess. I also think it's kinda bad business on there part to be running a watch club for a local area then not letting the watch lovers and collectors in that area be involved. With all that being said I wish I could go to the events I know my local AD has cause that Panerai event is something I will never forget but I would rather save the money and use the saving towards the next time piece. I get to talk and share pics of watch on Puristpro and on IG so I guess that's my out let for my passion when I can't do it locally.
If there is anyone out there around the Midwest United States wanting to do some watch GTG let's try to plain something so that we can GTG and share are passion for watches.
