I agree with you, but

 

even the top end takes a pause when things look dicey. And there are some nice watches in the lower end of the market in these auctions. As a friend of mine in the business observed, you'd be surprised how the potential buyers thin out at $xxx,000 (he asked me not to tell the figure---but lower than you might think). 6 figures is high end no doubt about it to most people, but collecting for profit is always a dangerous game. There is less margin for run up in a $5000 watch than a $1+++++ watch. 10% is just not the same to both. Either way you are right about who takes the brunt.
