Horological Meandering

It was truly a wonderful WIS event!

The best part of the evening was getting to spend time with my good friend Larry Kelley! The watches, while fun, were secondary to the friendship I've developed with Larry, who I met on WPS when he noticed that a photo of my vintage 1971 BMW cs was taken on my driveway and coincidentally in his old neighborhood (he since moved a few thousand feet down the hill to be rid of the excessive snow we usually get up here)!

The watches we got to ogle over last night were also quite special, particularly the ones in the black Pelican case. As I indicated in another post, that UN Air was truly spectacular, and spectacularly lightweight!

The Rolex 1908 was a real treat to try on. I didn't expect I would love the 1908 as much as I did, for many of us are so used to wearing the day-date or the various sport models. This one was truly special. Getting to try it on was a real gift and moved this reference to right near the top of my wish list!

Of course, the Lange 1 perpetual in platinum was outstanding, especially that movement (although I do prefer the manual winders like the Datograph as one gets to see the entire movement without a rotor blocking half of it).

The EOD made a surprise appearance. I don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh.

And that AP Code in the Pelican case was very cool What an interesting and innovative way to depicting the time, with the rotating discs. The Royal Oaks seem to get nearly all the attention in the AP family, but this one was truly special

I was surprised how much I liked the Cartier large Santos in titanium. So light and comfortable on the wrist. Another seemingly underappreciated reference.

And finally, Larry's Moser with the lime-colored dial is so impressive. So whimsical. I really get a kick out of handling it every time I see it. And Larrry's custom strap for his Kollokuim is a perfect match for such an interesting watch.

I brought a menagerie of watches, including a vintage B-Uhr, the Panerai 587, a 1972 two-tone GMT, which I just had overhauled at Rolex (it's running perfectly and winds like "butter"), an IWC Jubilee Portuguese in rose gold, a vintage Zenith from 1932, a Speake Marin Piccadilly and a UN I literally picked up at Federal Express on the way to the event, the dual time with white enamel dial and blue Roman numerals which I posted about last week.

All in all, a really fun evening!
