Horological Meandering

My experiences...

...on 6 watches from Zenith, IWC, Panerai, Oris and Seiko, serviced between 2010 and 2013:

If the local service center here in the US can handle the request / issue, it usually takes about 1 month to complete the service.  If watch needs forwarding to Switzerland, the service can take up to 3 months.

The only exception is Seiko, where one watch was sent from the US service center back to Japan for warranty repair, and it is targeted to return to me 1 month later.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I usually deal direct with the local / regional service center, rather than through an authorized dealer or boutique store.  And each time before I ship my watch to the service center, I take plenty of close-up photos to record the condition of the watch.

I would say I have the best service experiences with Zenith and IWC, in terms of communication and the quality of the service.  The process, current status and next steps were clearly explained to me by the service center reps.  There were no surprises.

Panerai and Oris did get the job done; however, IMHO, Panerai can use more care when handling their customers' watches.  Mine had picked up multiple fine scratches in the bezel when watch was returned to me.  Oris can do better on customer communication and process tracking.  They returned my watch to me, and a day later, called and asked me to send it back as they could not confirm whether watch did receive the overhaul service I requested.

Regards,

Blue
