Though I'm no expert regarding ceramics I am somewhat more knowledgable about IWC and its series of watch cases produced than I am of other watch companies. In general, the art and technology of case making in ceramics is not a simple or straightforward process to finalize to a high quality acceptable standard and, to the best of my knowledge, requires specialized tooling and skills to accomplish the best results.
Moreover, the difference in price between the same model from IWC in an all steel case or ceramic is not at all huge. And, the benefits of a durable, scratch resistant, IWC watch case far outweighs any extra charge tacked on as a result of higher labor and material costs.
Respectfully,
Jack Freedman
