Hey Mr Snak,
The Jaeger/Smiths thing has been discussed on lots of JLC threads. I did a trawl of those for an old post of mine:
"Had a good discussion on this with an ex-colleague who is a British motor-industry buff. (Never ask him about Lucas...unless you want to hear about Magnetos for half an hour)
A distinction has to be made between Ed. Jaeger - London, Establissements Jaeger - Paris (France) and the Swiss arm of Jaeger.
Ed Jaeger London was a separate entity manufacturing speedometers for the English Market. When Lucas looked like it may take a stake in the company, Smiths bought into Ed. Jaeger - London, who had exclusive licence rights to Jaeger instruments in the UK. So apart from technical discussions, after 1927, there is not much to link the car instruments of the various entities. And nary a thread to LeCoultre.
The interesting partnership is ABEC (All British Escapements Company) which made escapements for Smiths and Jaeger London. They used technicians from the Swiss arm. In 1937, Smith/Jaeger produced the first battery-impulse car clock, which used technology from the French arm.
A tangled web! Which untangled a little after WW2."
