Before I started using a bank vault.
I stuffed two watches "not of great consequence" into socks for safe keeping. Needless to say I am not sure where a hid them as it has been two years now without a trace. There are somewhere in the house but I can't for the life of me remember where I put them.
I don't use socks anymore but it does mean visiting the bank more often. And, I am sure that they will be found one day.

The secret hiding place method is a bad one.
I have lost track of a few that way, but never for more than a few hours... I recommend against this method!
