Horological Meandering

The 5177 for me.

Although I actually prefer the blue dial / white gold version.

The date doesn’t really bother me, though I can understand why people would prefer the balance of a non date version like the Ginza limited edition.

But as far as dates are concerned, I find this particular implementation quite quirky on a watch that is otherwise extremely classic.

And I am a bit tired of the knee jerk reactions I sometimes see about dates. I get that it’s sometimes badly done, but I can’t help the feeling, reading some of the reactions on the Fratello article or even here, that there is an element of snobbery about it.

Speaking of dates, the one on the Lange 1 is hardly flawless, with a void on the left aperture for the 1st 9 days of every month, and the numbers not being on the same plane. I much prefer how GO make a Grande Date.

So, as much as I like the Lange 1, and particularly its “Darth” variations, it’s the Breguet for me.
