I believe that a certain segment of social media driven "must have" pieces will do well like luxury handbags, as well as truly artisanal high horology (like art collection). One can project a brand or their own personality or sense of style from their wrists wherever they are unlike a grandfather clock, so that's an advantage for wristwatches.
Like many of my friends and acquaintances, I have switched to wearing an Apple Watch for convenience and hold on to a several mechanical pieces out of nostalgia. I'm not sure this nostalgia is a driver for the younger generation as most have never experienced a mechanical timepiece on the wrist to begin with. But I'm in California and what I see here may not be representative of the rest of the world.
