I agree with some of the other fellas that have replied, go for something classic and dressy. No date, hand wound perhaps. I'd stick with steel to keep the cost down and also because you seem like a tough watch guy. Maybe even a portuguieser hand wound? I really like IWC myself, but a JLC would be cool as well. If you want to go for a precious metal, then I think Lange. Lange all the way!

Welcome to the site. There is no right or wrong as far as collecting. The simplest advice is to get what you like. You will find that in time a theme might emerge. And if not who cares?
