the RW Smith Series 2 that I am waiting for will be 13.5mm thick. The dial is elegant but I must confess even I have my doubts about the thickness. Will let you know in 2020 when I receive it ...

But maybe that's not what you mean. If you are speaking to the dial, well, many brands do something similar for their "chronometers". U.N. comes quickly to mind. But the amount of unused space on the dials-similar to each other-is shared by G.O. as well. ...

When it comes to elegance these days. There’s well known manufactures calling 8mm+ watches Ultraslim, so nothing to worry about here. And for me at least neither would be out of place in most semi- formal to formal settings, so yes, certainly elegant.

My thought is that a truly elegant watch is a thin watch.
And these two are not that thin. But, as evidenced above, and below, some would say different.
Both are elegant watches style wise.
But Moritz G has always felt like a copy of Lange. And to me that makes them less elegant.
I'd concur with handsome.
Personally I think it's hard to be elegant beyond a certain diameter and thickness. Having the MG in the wrist last week, thank you, I was pleasantly surprised how it wears.
