Greubel Forsey Double Balancier 47mm Sapphire

Hello all! It has been some time since I had last posted, life gets in the way of our pleasures at times! I do hope all my friends here are doing well. I will be doing an update to the collection thread soon, picked up some interesting pieces since last year which I am sure some will find interesting... To the topic of this particular post, I have been thinking of picking up a Greubel Forsey for a while as my interest in main stream brands is waining, at this point I only follow Patek, Parmigiani, and Rolex, the rest disappoint on different levels, but I digress..... The GF in the title was offered to me by an Ad as I am about to pick up another watch and his offer got me revisiting the concept of finally owning a Greubel Forsey, the watch retails for 700k USD and is offered to be at under 400 brand new from an Ad ,a steep price and a steep discount at about 45% off. I have been researching the piece but just can't find enough information on it other than the basic technical stuff, i have seen the watch in person and it is stunning, might be the most beautiful GF and one of the most beautiful watches point blank. The blue dial contrasting with the unbelievable finishing on the movement parts is something to behold. My concern however is not the technical prowess and validity or the visual appeal, I have that sorted, but I am quite concerned and having difficulty justifieng the price. Is about 480 considered a fair price for this particular model compared to about 300 for the new smaller 42.5 version with a titanium case? Is the fact that the case is made out of saphire a gimmick or genuine innovation that will help retain the watches value? Am I better off waiting and getting another model? Keeping in mind this is a 47mm saphire case and a limited edition of only 11, which contributes to the higher price. The reason it's offered at a discount is what? The size is not popular or something else? I don't usualy prioritize resale value over a watches over all appeal, whether technical or visual, but anything above 100k needs to be seriously thought about, I really need to know that the value will not plummet to a fraction of its paid price. I don't need to know that a time piece has increased in value, but it would be detrimental to my enjoyment if more than 20 or 30% decrease in what I have paid is lost. Also, how does this compare to the new one at half the retail, and how does it rate in the GF hierarchy? Many thanks to all who can she'd any light on this piece to this very confused and frightened GF newcomer!!!

Is that your personal watch? Looks great on you, how big is your wrist?

It is my personal watch, yes. My wrist is

average size; not large and not skinny either. I don’t know the exact measurement. But the watch wears very well.

Thanks for your valuable input

Great to hear from one of the 11! I am getting closer to joining you as a member of the saphire GF club! Do you mind sharing what you paid for yours? Via PM if that is more comfortable for you

I am not comfortable disclosing what

I paid; sorry. It doesn’t matter anyway; you’ll need to determine if what you will pay is good value for you and makes sense to you.

Got you 👍

Do you know the lug to lug?

I dont think anyone can answer those questions better than you

You know what you are talking about. Your concerns are valid. Its up to you. Could you get a better watch for that money? Perhaps. The sapphire case comes with a huge premium. Worth it? I dont know. Only you can tell. Other GF models? Also an option.

I'm not an expert, just a guy who loves watches but couldn't dream of spending money in that range on a watch

Personally, the sapphire is worth it. It's a rare enough material in terms of the number of watch makers willing to work with it and this is a very limited edition. I wouldn't dream of comparing it to titanium, even if a smaller case size is more in the r...

If you're asking whether the sapphire case is a gimmick...

Then I think you would be happier with a different GF. Go for what you like best about the brand.

Not too many data points...

With only 11 ever made, the secondary market price is going to be volatile, similar to anything that changes hands very infrequently. This exact watch may not come up for sale in the secondary market for many years or there may be a motivated seller alrea...

All questions only you can awnser I would say . A amazing and gorgeous masterpiece from a top brand .

This sapphire watch though is truly a stunner

There is way more content here than the convexe double balance...

...all the bridges are more complex with a higher effort in finishing, plates have additional decoration on the sides, dial is polished instead of blasted, sapphire case more complex, etc etc The only advancement I see in the Convexe line is maybe additio...
