Let's remember M.Breguet
Some of the historical horological treasures came into existence because M.Breguet chose to produce bespoke watches for Napoleon, Mary Antoinette etc.And without the funding from these "collectors", the concept and the watches would never have been realized.
I believe an independent watch maker has to seize each opportunity to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces, though they may not exactly be to his individual taste. So I guess Kari cannot be faulted for a similar approach..
