The watchmaker has just unveiled a new and original complication in his Vingt-8 model. You can see on the picture below that there is a mobile minute ring. The ring will move at the same speed than the hour hand. Hence, the minute hand will have to adapt ...  

and you just read the minutes from the 12 o'clock position of the minute ring? - AT

While the minute hand is adjusted to move 8.33% faster than normal so in one hour it rotates 390° and catches up to the hour hand. A curious way to display time, perhaps, but not quite a 'complication' in any sense of the word...

hence, the "60" will remain on the hour hand side. But I'll wait for more explanations maybe from someone who will be able to meet KV.

The clockwise explanation makes more sense now, with that being the case. Still think it’s a daft thing to do on a conventional layout, just to be different. If you’re aiming for different, then Urwerk, MCT, and Pierre DeRoche have covered that base. Undo... 

When talking about what's different I would say there will never be enough to me as each try is always a good thing and we never know what it can bring and who it will appeal to. Best, Mark

But, one that probably is very natural after a short time. The problem is likely switching between this and normal watches, there will be an adjustment period each way. As a main watch, though, this could be very nice.

Not very natural but who knows how well will it work for the wearer? Maybe good, who knows You're right, switching between watches would not be that easy though. Best, Mark

I like alternate time displays, but this one doesn\'t work for me.

For sure the person standing next to you looking over will be puzzled when you tell him the time.

It does make sense. Probably take a few hours to acclimate to the movement. Others who see it would think you have the wrong time, great conversation piece.

This KV sings at a much lower level than his other pieces to me...

As I wrote above, maybe the wearer will be surpised to feel it is even easier reading than the standard manner? Or just a way to express curiosity from the watchmaker. Time will tell Kari! Best, Mark

are also looking for something unusual. We see among the indpendent watchmaking a lot of very original displays. Maybe that this manner to tell time will appeal to some and that the experience wearing it is better than we think? We'll see. Best, Mark

Contrarian for the sake of being contrarian has little value. Different just to be different to me is similar. I am a huge Kari fan but this to me is a rare miss where he is trying too hard.

But I absolutely love the color scheme on the white dial version shown.

It is very pure with a little touch of modernity. A bit like yours, with a light main color and touches of blue and red. Best, Mark

In a word. Awsome. I saw the blue dialed one in Môtiers early last November and I fell completely under the charm of this watch. The dial needs to be seen with the lettering under the glazing of the enamel playing hide and seek- Very subtle. But of course... 

I can imagine how nice the dial is (I didn't notice it was enamal). I totally agree with what your wrote. We all have the specific angle we look at watchmaking, what we appreciate in those micro mechanics. It is not always about usefulness, legibility, wa... 

13 times over a 12 hour period.

The minute hand will be aligned with the hours hand for each full hour. So, the rotation speed of the minute hand is 65 mn per hour. I'll let you do the math for the disk You're gonna be wrong at reading the time in the first place, because we are so used... 

I commissioned an ISO from Kari last year and am collecting it soon. I actually think this display, with the hour and minute hands lining up on the hour each hour, is more intuitive than the traditional display we are all used to. I also like the idea of ...

I think this would result in mistakes telling time .. will get confusing. .Just think if the guy next to you looks over your shoulder to see the time he will definitely get it wrong

but maybe the philosophy will speak to some people and be nice to use on the long run. We'll see if an owner wishes to talk about it in the future! Best, Mark
