Hello everyone! I've treated myself to a new lens for Christmas (lots less expensive that a new watch, alas -- perhaps next year I'll be back to adding to the tick-tock collection), and decided to turn my attention to my wife's Parmigiani Kalpa Piccola Jo...  

to post "I just got a new lens" and NOT TELL US WHAT IT IS!!! A

It's the PC-E 85mm f2.8 tilt-shift lens from Nikon -- part of my continuing quest to increase the effective DOF in my macro photos... Best, Gary

As noted in my response to Aaron it's a PC-E ("perspective control" - electronic diaphragm) lens from Nikon. It is the SLR equivalent of an old-fashioned bellows view camera -- you can shift the lens to turn converging lines into parallel ones (very helpf... 

not sure if it will fit though D40 it is what will fit that?

The lens can be used with the D40, but because the prism enclosure is larger than on the D700, D300, or D3, the lens cannot be fully rotated at full shift -- so there is some reduction in its usefulness. Also, with the D40 you will have to adjust the aper...

To be honest I was so intent on getting the MOP to turn out that I overlooked the blue on the hands! Probably makes sense that by getting the right optical alignment to bring out the colors in the MOP I also caught the hands just right. Appreciate the kin... 

Wow! You managed to capture the gorgeous expanse of MOP dial and pretty hue of blued hands so perfectly. Your photos keep getting better and better. Your wife is lucky to have such a pretty timepiece (and generous husband!). Cheers, Daos

Thanks, Daos! I'm having a lot of fun working on my technique, but at the same time I'm getting more selective so my yield of perceived "keepers" is a lot lower. I still have a lot to learn with regard to the tilt/shift lens, but it's great fun testing ou...
