Independents

They might be including "handling"....

Depending if they are making any money on the service charges, there is an opportunity for them to make a little margin by adding a little something into the shipping charge.

If you have an AD handle the shipping to and fro, I don't think it is unreasonable for them to make something for their time and effort, otherwise go to Fed Ex and send it yourself. You will quickly find out how much insurance charges are. If it under warranty, then that is another matter.

AD's are often the "bad guys" when it comes to service and helping clients, when in fact their hands are tied by the brands who do not allow sales of parts that a good qualified watchmaker could easily install or replace for a lot less than sending the watch to the home country. Can we say "cartel" or monopoly here...and yes one can make the argument that too many non-qualified "Blacksmiths" have been allowed access to fix our precious babies, so the watchbrands have tightened up the after sales service area by insisting that only they fix them, but I tend to err on the side of, follow the money...

Speaking with a WOSTEP trained watchmaker recently, he was telling me how difficult it getting to get parts for the various high end brands that I certainly know he is able and qualified to service.

Anyway, with your proximity to Switzerland, you are right, an Easyjet flt. into Geneva would be way less than GBP900 round trip, and you'd probably have a great little trip to visit the workshops at the same time!

Good luck with this,

Cheers,

Tim
